Choice of genre.

My main submission for this LITWS2 module consists of a piece of creative fictional writing in the form of a Playscript. This perhaps unusual and somewhat risky choice of genre was made for a number of reasons.

* As a means of overcoming difficulties in applying the suggested learning activities and report format to my own precarious work setting situation.

* To satisfy my own needs to learn new techniques and explore different ways of expressing myself.

In the event, I am pleased with having made that decision because the playscript genre turned out to be a powerful and relatively concise way of depicting ideas, situations and attitudes, and allowed an opportunity to express many things which would not otherwise have been possible. It was also enjoyable, which is an important factor in being able to sustain progress through a three year degree while working full time as well.

The main disadvantage is that evidence of learning, analysis, and other criteria present in the playscript is less explicit than in a conventional report, so that could make assessment a little harder and certainly less predictable, although my capable peer-review partners both indicate that this can be accomplished so I am fairly confident that the submission should be at least acceptable.

The process of fulfilling this module is recorded as a short series of entries and comments within the goals of

technology

The Playscript was authored in a personal Wiki application called VoodooPad, using my own markup language customised for the playscript format, exported to an AppleWorks word processing document for further editing and then 'printed' as a non-editable pdf document for publication.

2. PDP

The playscript refers to a prop in the form of a printed artefact which ends up crumpled and discarded. Fortunately the document also exists in electronic form and can be viewed online through the following link:

Andy Roberts PDP

That document comprises the rest of assessment product for this module, together with the playscript and this page of covering explanation.

Bibliography

While the playscript refers to the most important theoretical works in its own bibliography, a more comprehensive list of my reading and learning for this module is obtained through publishing my Furl category of "Lit for Rep10"
