When the pound shops start selling stuff at 89p – and then close down because nobody wants it, isn’t it time to start thinking about providing quality again?

  1. The GFC is very scary – and in the UK in particular – it seems to be v.bad.

    In Oz, these bargain shops have been doing well … luxury items seem to have suffered more.

    2009, and perhaps into 2010, will see the decade out as a time of devastating change ….. shopping for local products will be essential.

    With this and Woolworths, there soon won’t be anywhere to buy plastic bowls and buckets.

    Thankfully, my local pound shop is still going strong, I use it in case I ever need 2kg of biscuits or some new tuppleware…

    But I really don’t mind paying a little extra for something that’s going to last twice as long. I think the main problem for shops is that people are only buying things they need at the moment, and surviving without the luxuries as only a few can really afford them.
