Have you been keeping up with the Ebbsfleet story recently? I think the society is breaking down partly because of the Operator’s lack of understanding of online communities. It may be because I’ve been looking at Activity Systems recently, but I just see: Communities of Practice, Knowledge distribution etc, mediating tools (website) all contributing to things not working properly. Not sure what can be done at the moment to save off renewal apocalypse in February.
Hi Dave, I must admit I started to lose interest when it became apparant that there was a group within a group operating which wasn’t being entirely honest about the motivation behind proposed rule changes. It seems the power was allowed to pass away from the mass membership and into the hands of the board, based on a pretext of being representative. That’s what I made of the political development anyway, but I’m interested to hear more about how the online community may have exacerbated or could have prevented such a process. It seemed as if there were a few prominent or should I say vocal members who contributed to a culture of leaving decisions up to another authority. The idea of using carefully worded polls as a substitute for taking any notice of the online discussions may be what you are referring to as lack of understanding?
So anyway, could the situation still be rectified at this stage?
