One advantage to email over Facebook is you can cc people (in my case co-workers) to let them know how you responded to an inquiry and that the inquiry even took place.

MySpace is really helpful service, especially for young. With few clicks you can introduce yourself to the whole world. You can make friends, organize in groups, share music, video clips.

I replied within Facebook:

Thanks for your thoughts Clive, especially the idea that the phone book used to be sufficient and we've lost something there. Also the rationale for subverting site rules. It's like each one of us is trying to find our own way of operating in a constantly changing environment.

My immediate concern is that by importing my blog post post here, you have made a significant contribution which isn't now available to readers outside of facebook. That's an issue I'll be contemplating as well.

Clive Power comments from within Facebook:

Andy

I'd love a monster application to come along and squash the rest - like MS Word did. I'm a member of Flickr, Facebook and LinkedIn.

I just want some way of easily accessing contact details for people I know and doing the same with my info.

All I really want would've been in a phone book 20 years ago. I wish there was a mobile phone and email address directory that worked like a traditional phone book (with the info hidden).

I'm not so interested in the social side. I've no qualms about subverting the sites - I put my email details on LinkedIn not to market but to make the process easier.

I think all my networks have limitations. I can't see LinkedIn working as intended - few people are ever going to ask someone they know just slightly to a pass on a message to someone else. Its annoying that Facebook doesn't allow pseudonym profiles - I have various pseudonymous blogs I would copy here.

My wish - a site that allows every option you can think of & becomes the standard.

I love MyBlogLog. Instead of the widget I just keep an eye on my community. It is cool to see the number of community members increase.

Andy,

Very interesting post. You mentioned using MyBlogLog to bring bloggers with common interests together, and because of that, I think you might be interested in our AutoRoll widget which uses Criteo's advanced recommendation engine to suggest blogs within the network that are similar to yours. This will help you and your readers to be introduced to like-minded bloggers, which is definitely beneficial.

Please take a look at AutoRoll and let me know what you think!
