I started thinking of CC on music as I wanted some music to go on a slideshow I was putting up in YouTube. It wasn't easy to find CC music (I've got used to it being so easy with pics) and it occurred to me that there are many times I might want to mix media and and sounds, but I'll always have copyright issues. CC could be good because it would give someone's work more exposure.

Hi Bev,

As I remember you had issues with the security of payment method at Sellaband. Anyway, what seemed to happen on the site with the active believers was that a power curve developed such that they only invested in the top few artists who were in sight of the 50,000 goal. Some artists then started offering incentives such as free CDs etc which then became expected.
The copyright situation for the demo songs on the sellaband website is not explicit as far as I can see, therefore copyright remains with the owners. Artists have agreed to grant publishing rights for the new album to Sellaband once the 50,000 goal is reached. Really, the whole project is trying to forge a new method to replace the old copyright model, by sharing ad revenue for example.

In my case, I have made all of my songs available for free download over at last.fm and elsewhere which means they are freely available for personal use. Now that you've asked, I'll have to consider putting a version of the Creative Commons license on as well just in case anybody wanted to re-publish in some form. Meanwhile, I would expect them to ask permission which would be invariably granted.

Andy, I tried to buy some shares once. I think the deal never went through.

A slightly related question. What is the copyright of your music and other music on Sellaband?

Ah Glenrothes a wonderful place!

The first cycling club I joined (23 years ago now) on a Sunday Club ride we would often have to negotiate our way through the myriad of Glenrothes roundabouts.

When we reached the roundabout with the huge Irises (bought from the Glasgow Garden Festival) we would all give a cheer as we had managed to escape Glenrothes's clutches!

It's interesting how memory works, music, smells and even taste can all trigger powerful images and memories of events that happened in childhood. I was recently invited to the Scottish Malt Whiskey Society in Leith and since I am no expert when it comes to whiskey, I had a chat with the barman to suggest a nice peaty one for me. He came up with two one was just very peaty while the other was even more peaty but with a "burnt down building" kind of taste. Intrigued I had to try the "burnt down building" one, which triggered a memory of one of the first buildings I worked on when I was only 17 years old. Just as we had completed getting Planning Permission to extend this old Car Repair Garage there was an accident and it was badly damaged by fire. Once it was safe we had to survey what was left of the building and in particular measure how much was left of the old timber beams. Large timbers in a fire will char and this actually acts like fire protection and as they were substantial timbers we were able to keep them in place andreuse them.

Radio 4's website is helping with a Memory Research Project that I should really go and checkout one of these days.
