Ink Caps November 11, 2004

I spotted these two specimens a couple of days ago, on a grassy patch in South London. Shaggy ink caps, or Lawyers wigs. They are edible, but not usually worth it because they decompose rapidly giving off smelly staining black liquid.

I see so many mushrooms in Epping forest…I’ve even seen those gorgeous red spotted ones-to me the forest at the moment is magical-if I saw fairies and witches and elves it wouldn’t surprise me…

You might see the fairies, but don’t eat the Fly Agaric red mushrooms with white spots - they are hallucinogenic, poisonous and very unpredictable.

70% of Icelanders will answer quite seriously that they believe in elves. Bjork said, so it must be true.
