My problem with any process whose intent is to lead to higher productivity, or more efficient work, is that I always want to be doing something else eg artistic creations or studying. A butterfly mind perhaps, or an indication that I don't want to be doing certain kinds of work, but I'm going with it for the time being, because I think it's guiding me towards where I really want to be at the same time as learning stuff that I find useful or inspiring. I'd be interested to learn how +Andy Roberts fits his song-writing & singing in with his action logging. Perhaps I should ask him :)

I recommend anyone reading this to go to the following thread to read more comments about the above excellent article from Linda Hartley: https://plus.google.com/u/0/115101198456724971651/posts/4UhDtAhJPWB

Hi Paul,
It's a while since I did my PTTLS now and I'm having to think about doing DTTLS next year if I'm to carry on teaching. I think the PTTLS course varies massively depending on your tutor & the set up at your college. I know a few people who have found it useful but they really are the minority.
I think the bigger question may be whether it is worth the investment of time, money, energy and resources to do any adult education qualifications in the current climate of cuts.

I am currently studying PTLLS and I hate it. The essay type questions give you the impression that you can answer them from your own experience and knowledge, this however is not the case, and instead I had to sit through three days of mundane drivel then rewrite all the essays so that they included some of the elements from the course. Additionally there is a huge pile of additional paperwork to create and organise. My instructor was uninspiring, poorly prepared and critical of some of the students. This hasn't been a pleasant experience and I definitely don't recommend it to anyone else.

Hi Sarah,
NCFE 1 and 2 are accepted by many schools. There is no 'gold standard' for employment in schools. In fact, if they know you, some schools would rather employ someone with lower qualifications and oversee their NVQ through the school. Obviously they are not as high a qualification as an NVQ2 and that is what you will eventually need to do. The NCFE is a good starting point and I wish you lots of luck.
